What Fat, Freezing, and “CoolSculpting” Has to Do With a Slimmer Figure
As we age, excess stubborn fat such as love handles, bra fat, back fat, abdomen, and banana rolls become increasingly difficult to remove. To make matters worse, women have a higher likelihood (biologically) of storing fat than men, which translates into more fat surrounding the hips and thighs. This unwanted fat my sound daunting for many, but thankfully there is an FDA approved solution called ‘CoolSculpting’ which uses cryolipolysis to restore your body to the slim figure it once was. Today, we are going to uncover some of the details of just how this amazing procedure can rejuvenate your figure just in-time for summer!
What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting, also known as cryolipolysis is an FDA approved procedure by which fat cells are eliminated through a freezing process. Stubborn fat pockets are often the main motivation for using this treatment, as this type of fat may linger despite regular diet and exercise. Contrary to most body sculpting procedures, which rely on invasive incisions to remove unwanted fat, CoolSculpting works by using controlled freezing to cool fat cells to the point where they become inactive and are in turn broken down and eliminated by the body.
How much does the CoolSculpting procedure cost?
The price for CoolSculpting procedures varies depending on your areas of concern, the number of sessions needed, and your ultimate patient goals. We will help create a customized treatment plan, in person, that’s tailored to your body, your goals, and your budget.
Am I a good candidate?
Good candidates are within 20-30 pounds of their ideal weight and have noticeable bulges in certain areas they’d like to get rid of. The CoolSculpting fat reduction procedure is specifically designed for those who have unwanted fat that resists diet and exercise. CoolSculpting is not a weight loss solution for people who are overweight, however it is a non-surgical alternative to liposuction.
How to Prepare for a CoolSculpting Treatment Session?
- Avoid taking anti-inflammatories or blood thinners
- Avoid activities that may result in strains, cuts, or bruises to the areas that need treatment
- Avoid unhealthy foods and caffeine
- Avoid smoking one week prior to treatment, which will assist in the healing process
What to Bring or do on the Day of your CoolSculpting Treatment Session?
- Make sure you eat prior to your treatment
- Wear a bra, underwear, and comfortable clothing, as gel will need to be manoeuvred and spread around certain areas
- Spare clothes in case gel gets on anything you are wearing (don’t worry it will come out in the wash)
- A book, podcast, or something to keep you occupied during your session
What Does the CoolSculpting Procedure Feel Like?
First the applicator is placed on the skin, and patients will feel a slight tug as the applicator pulls their tissue towards the cooling cup. Once the cooling is turned on, patients often describe the initial feeling as cold, and say they experience some stinging. However, after a few short minutes your skin will adjust, and you will cease to feel the cooling effect. Every patient is different depending on their anatomy, but the average time for each session can range between 2 to 4 hours. The best part is that after completing your treatment session, you are able to continue with your day-to-day activities without significant downtime.
What Happens After your Procedure?
Generally speaking, a majority of patients leave their procedure just as they came. In fact there is virtually no recovery time, with many people returning to work immediately following the treatment. There often is some swelling, redness, and possible bruising post procedure in the treated area. Results can begin to appear four to six weeks after your treatment is completed, with most people experiencing their final result at the 3-month mark. We always recommend a minimum of 2 sessions for each client, and then reassess the treated area after the second session.
