With summer coming soon, the sun out and shining on many of our Spring days, many of you have asked: sunscreen is it enough? So we decided we would talk a little bit about sun protection.
First of all, it is important to know that sunscreen and sunblock are not the same thing. A sunscreen is a chemical based product that absorbs UV rays and then neutralizes them, while a sunblock is a physical block, usually comprised of titanium and zinc, that deflects harmful rays.
Both sunscreen and sunblock can have their purpose, but if you opt to use a chemical sunscreen make sure it is oxybenzone free.
Seven of our jane iredale Mineral Makeup items and both the ZO Oclipse-C and Oclipse Primer are recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation meaning they carry the seal shown below.
Even though sun protection can significantly lower the amount of DNA damage caused by UV rays, it doesn’t offer complete protection. Our skin still needs DNA and antioxidant protection for our cells to be fully protected.
This is why a daytime cream with DNA repairing enzymes and antioxidants under your sun protection will provide you will even more coverage. We have two favourite products that provide DNA repair and antioxidants.
1) ZO Daily Power Defense, which you can read more about here.
2) Triple Action Protector, which you can read more about here.
So hopefully that answers the burning question: Sunscreen is it Enough? What are you favourite forms of sun protection and why? We would love to hear from you!
